One Week Done...

We had a fantastic first week in first grade! I love my new "firstie friends"!! They are a fun group of kids and I can't believe (after 17 years of teaching first grade) I have more girls than boys in my class! :) I am very excited to work with this group and take them from "just finished Kindergarten" to "ready for 2nd grade"!

We have been busy this week learning the rules, establishing routines and getting to know each other. Next week we will be keeping track of the colors we end up on with our clip-up/clip-down behavior chart. Parents will find out daily how we did. Those students reaching the red, "outstanding' section of the chart will add a sticker to their name card for special recognition. Parents: make sure you check your child's folder daily for that information.

Our first 3 fancy words we focused on for our "Robust Vocabulary" were cooperate, concentrate, and challenge. We read the book School Rules and listened for the words. Ask your favorite first grader if he/she knows what those words mean. We added the words to our clothesline of fancy words.  Here are some pictures of our puzzle work this afternoon. Do you see some concentration, cooperation and challenges? :)

  2. Oh Wow Great Great Great! I love the focus of your 3 fancy words! I loved how you integrated them into an activity. I think I might have to try the same thing next week with my smarties! I'm glad your week was a success. Have a great weekend. We have a hurricane headed our way! It will be a little wet around here.
