We finished up our study of owls this week. We worked in groups to complete the "Owls LOOK/SOUND/DO" graphic organizer. We used our owl PWIM and some non-fiction books to help us spell the words. We wrote facts about owls using this information.
Then, we went to the computer lab and learned how to blog. The first graders have their own Kidblog blogs and this past week they learned how to log in and "post" to their blogs. Click here to view our first Kidblog posts about owls. I'm sure they'd love if you'd leave them a comment, too! :)
In Math we worked on figuring out all the ways to make 10. We used fish and fish bowls, then wrote the information on the table. We found out there are 11 ways to make 10.
On Thursday we visited the recycling center in Burlington. We learned about the items that can be recycled and what they can be made into. We even got to throw plastic bottles into the shredder and see the plastic confetti that came out of it. "Professor Garbologist" showed us the bales of cardboard and tin cans that are waiting to be shipped out.
Friday we had a fire drill to practice in case of a fire. A fire truck and a volunteer firefighter came to answer any questions we had. We also had a recycling assembly in the afternoon as a kick-off to our school-wide recycling that we are starting this year.
Another busy week in first grade is over...more fun and hard work next week! :)

Nice work, first graders and Mrs. Hilton!
ReplyDeleteI love your kid blog. Very cute. I tried to leave a comment but it wanted me to log in and wasn't sure how to do that. Keep up the GREAT work, Grade Ones!!

Thanks, Barbara! I'm not sure why you couldn't leave a comment on our Kidblog. I went into the settings and made sure you don't have to sign in. So, it should work now.
