Yesterday I showed the first graders how to make word mosaics using
imagechef.com. First they made a list of people, animals and things that they love in their journals. Then, we went to the computer lab and they typed their words and created their mosaics. They chose the font and colors for their mosaics and then saved the image to their folders. They are getting really good at saving to their folders now! :)
Today when we went back to the lab the kiddos did an excellent job of following directions in order to add their word mosaic to their Kidblog posts. Be sure to go to
our Kidblog and check them out! :)
Here's my word mosaic... :)

Hi Laurie,
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration. I love the imagechef site. We had lab time this morning so we tried out your activity. My kids loved being able to change the colors and fonts of the mosaics. It was very simple. But it became a practice session for all of us because I couldn't figure out how to save it. I spent most of the class working every angle to try to save. So any hints on how you saved their mosaics? My kids were kind of bummed that we couldn't. We are working with PCs so I wondered if Macs were the key. We will try it again next week. I want to post them on kidblog like you did. They looked wonderful when I checked out your kids. Have a great weekend.

Claire-
ReplyDeleteIt took some work for me to figure it out also...we clicked on the "export" button and then we had to right-click (or control-click) to "save image as"...let me know if that works for you. By the way, I found another great site for word heart mosaics (http://www.neoformix.com/Projects/WordHearts/), but saving the image is tricky on a PC.
Laurie :)
