The End is Near

I can't believe the summer is almost over! I always drag my feet getting back into the swing of things at this time of the year. I love teaching first grade, but I also really love my summers at home...reading, swimming, going to baseball games, visiting family, SLEEPING IN!!, and getting projects done around the house. I peeled wallpaper off our upstairs bathroom this summer and then painted it. Only 1 more room with wallpaper to go in this big, 'ol house! We did a semi-redo of our kitchen which involved some painting and new lighting...and new cabinet knobs and beautiful new countertops! :)

I also started my own "business". I make handpainted signs like this one that I just finished for my classroom:

Here's my Etsy shop with the signs I have made so far.
You can also find me on Facebook @ http://www.facebook.com/JustSayItSigns

I was so lucky this summer to meet up with my Skype teacher friend from New York/Vermont-Claire Dietsche! She was visiting the Chicago area and drove over to meet me in LeClaire, IA (home of the America Pickers!!). I LOVED meeting her face-to-face after Skyping with her and her first graders last year. I'm so excited about the projects we talked about over lunch and love the book she recommended to me.

More to come in the next few days...but now it's time for me to go spend some time in the pool while I can! :)
