Talking Marks

Today in first grade we learned about quotation marks (a.k.a. talking marks). Just a few of the kiddos knew what they were, but they weren't sure when to use them when writing. So, we talked about them and read some sentences with quotation marks and then wrote some sentences of our own. It's so great being able to use our Promethean board to learn and practice new skills. We passed around the wireless keyboard (I love that gadget!!) and typed sentences (and learned how to use the shift key to make the ") so that they were projected onto the board for everyone to see and read.

Here's a screenshot of our work.

Then, the first graders wrote sentences with quotation marks in their journals. This afternoon we went to the computer lab and typed those sentences onto our Kidblog. We still need a little bit of work on the confusing punctuation that goes along with those kinds of sentences (commas, etc!!), but they did a great job on their first try! :)

On another note, I am very excited to show some of the amazing work some of the kids have been starting on our laptops and iPads...stay tuned!! :)

And...GO BULLETTES AND BULLDOGS!!! Just sayin'! :)
